Terry Backer, founder of Long Island Soundkeeper, passed away this morning after a long fight with cancer. He will be missed by many, and he was an inspirational leader at the Soundkeeper organization. Terry led a life of public service, taking actions that prevented pollution from entering the Sound through awareness raising, legal battles with polluters, and on-the-water initiatives that kept pollution out of the Sound. The Soundkeeper organization will continue in Terry’s honor so that we can work towards his original goals of protecting the Sound from pollution and keeping the water clean and the marine life healthy. We hope that you join us in remembering Terry Backer and all that he has accomplished in his life. We remain dedicated to his original goals at Soundkeeper and will continue to work to protect and preserve the Sound.
