Soundkeeper applied and was just awarded a $2,000 grant from the Whole Kids Foundation to be used for the establishment of a school garden program at a school within the Long Island Sound Watershed Area (school yet to be determined). This project aims at creating the environmental stewards of the future, to teach young students about organic growing methods, the harm that excessive fertilizers and pesticides cause to the Sound and the creatures that call it home. We will use the grant funds for the purchase of raised bed materials, organic soils and fertilizers, and learning materials that will enrich students hands-on learning experience. We will keep you updated on the progress of this grant!
